New Castle businessman challenges Carper Kevin Wade holds campaign rally in Lewes

CapeGazette.com by Kara Nuzback

Jan 23, 2012

Lewes — Kevin Wade wants to change the way Delaware is represented in Washington, D.C.  More than 60 Delaware residents gathered Jan. 12 to rally support for Wade, a Republican, in his run against Delaware’s U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, a Democrat who has never lost an election.
Wade said he is not concerned with Carper’s political career.  “Tom Carper may be winning, but everyone in this room is losing,” Wade said as he glanced around the Sussex East clubhouse in Lewes.
Wade said career politicians such as Carper have stopped working for their constituents. “The people I work with have to do their job or they have to go,” Wade said.  Wade founded Philadelphia Control Systems Inc., an engineering corporation based in Christiana, about 30 years ago, at age 29.
“Kevin doesn’t have to do this.  He’s been very successful,” said Sussex County Republican Dan Anderson.  “He’s doing this because he’s a patriot.”

Wade previously campaigned for the party's endorsement for U.S. Congress in 2010, but dropped out of the race when Michelle Rollins won it. Wade hopes to unseat incumbent Tom Carper.

THE DELAWARE SCENE

Next year is, of course an election year.  Nationally there is a lot of excitement with candidates surging and settling.  Newt Gingrich winning the DE GOP delegate straw poll by one vote illustrates the national flux.  In Delaware, the field is just now forming. In the statewide offices, the Democrats are sitting pretty with 5 incumbents.
